What if the apocalypse did happen?

On November Twenty first 2012... nothing happened.
Except of course, the Children of Kisin (A cult believing themselves to be descendants of a Mayan death god). No one knew how long they'd been around or who they were until after. They bombed every major city in the world, started fires, literally dismantled the internet, shut down nuclear reactors, killed world leaders and then each and every one of them killed themselves. This is just the short list. After the fact one message was everywhere in every language spoken by modern man: The Children of Kisin Have Won. The world has ended, the prophecy fulfilled, and now the world can begin again. Scrawled on bathroom walls, carved into flesh, the words are all that is left of The Children. No one left to question or prosecute.
That's when the riots started. There wasn't enough and everyone needed something. If the world had been at all savable after The Children

Twenty years down the line humanity is dwindling. A few citadels still exist, for at least a few saw this coming and prepared. From the rumored Biodome of New York to the fabled Bunkers of the British Isle one thing is clear: our leaders, our wealthy, and our powerful have abandoned us to survive in the now toxic wastes.
Our story begins in Northern California, in what was once a great forest but now stands as only frozen ash and mud, Survivors scavenging the ruins.

A discovery is made. A tiny shed-like underground bunker containing two things worthwhile. Water and blankets.

This is a pretty freeform RP, I haven't done a forum RP in awhile and I wanted to get warmed up again, I figured at least a few others would be the same. Violence is acceptable but don't just kill everyone right off because then it wont last at all! I'll post a character if anyone even joins haha.

Character Profile-

Name: James

Age: 22

Appearance: A young man with blonde hair and green eyes, slim and small. He isn't very strong, but he is fast for his size.
His body is rather well-toned, but not muscular by any means. When in a "safe-zone" he wears dark brown leather trousers and a stained yellowish white shirt. When in the wastes, he wears full leather patchwork armour, a jury-rigged respirator, that acts like a gas mask, around his neck, just in case, goggles at all times, and rough brown gloves.

Equipment: Goggles, respirator with ten working filters, rough patchwork leather armour, pistol (16 round magazine) with 8 extra rounds, and a machete.

Weaknesses: He is not very strong for one, and he can be quite paranoid, but he is very brash, and hard-headed, and always prefers to do things that are well beyond his level. He is good when in groups, but when he works on his own, he is much less proficient, and can get sidetracked by his worries quite easily.

Group: After the death of his father, James works with the man his father trusted the most, named Gordon. Gordon is over forty years old, and has survived in the wastes longer than anyone else, but James knows Gordon won't be around forever...

Survival Technique: From his small stature and years of experience, James is well suited to surviving by keeping his head down, and not letting others see him. He steals the things he needs quite often, but does not always succeed, twice Gordon has had to rescue the young man, and both times, they almost got killed by James' stupidity.

Name: Lona
Age: 26
Appearance: Lona doesn't have much time to worry about it so her face is often dusty or even muddy, and mostly obscured by her gear. At around five foot seven or so she's at an average height and she manages to maintain a small amount of fat and muscle even though food is scarce. Her eyes are a nondescript dark brown and she keeps her light brown hair pulled back at all times. She has a burn scar on her lower left cheek that extends down onto her neck and across her left shoulder. She normally wears a leather jacket with hood and cloth wrapped around her face to guard against dust and chemicals as well as hiding her. (see image below) She also wears jeans under a pair of black snowpants.

(Disreguard the red hair pictured)

Equipment: A large backpack with a water canteen and jerky, cloth bandages, a photo of her and her parents, swiss army knife, a switchblade, canned beans, a large length of rope, a small blanket and a handgun with no ammo currently.

Weaknesses: Somewhat limited mobility in the left arm, no proper protection against chemicals/dust/pepperspray. Often assumes others are a threat before giving them a chance.

Group: (Who do you travel with?) Though she is currently solo, Lona has joined others before starting with her mother who taught her not to stay with others unless they prove themselves useful.

Survival Technique: Lona Scavenges and Steals. She avoids murder when she can but in a her or you situation you should probably run. Quickly. (Unless you can convince her you are no longer a threat.)
